Autodim Mirror Cheap FIX with Bamboo Posted by FredKolb12 [Email] (#46) [Profile/Gallery] (more from FredKolb12) on Sun, 27 Apr 2014 11:11:30 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I used a thin strip of bamboo from chopsticks (square ended) to fix the mirror. Last year, the switch on the mirror would no longer stay in; it was MECHANICALLY broken. I researched repair and also getting a used one from a salvage place but then my wife suffered a major medical issue and I stopped driving the car every day. This year on a whim while stopped at a light I pushed and held the switch and the mirror functioned fine. When I got home, I raided the kitchen drawer and using a sharp wood chisel, made two thin shims bamboo from the square end of a chopstick. With the button held in and then released a little until it clicked, I jammed in one of the strips and now I'm back into night driving again.
I had wanted to open the mirror and hot-wire the switch, but had no time to take it apart due to my wife's issues. This was a fast and CHEAP solution that works. I'll post a picture in my gallery this week.
