I hope by now you've got your problem solved. I don't think a resistance check is a good indication of how your positive battery cable will perform under load. Even a few good strands of copper will indicate a low static resistance. A better instrument would be the high voltage resistance checker (Fluke also makes one).
I've experienced this twice, once on a C900 (was the starter) and again on brand X. Brand X vehicle turned out to be the positive batter cable. Was ok cold, but performed poorly when hot. I surmised resistance increased when warm to the point it barely turned the engine over. In both cases, the starter and cable fixed the problem.
Two things, first, if you have corrosion at the terminal, that may indicate a greater likely hood of corrosion along the cable. Secondly, did you have the newer starter tested at one of the auto parts stores?
