I'll throw a couple of thoughts out for your consideration, and attach a link that is similar to one that helped me understand the way this worked better.
Re: the battery. In my case, the battery always showed decent voltage and the alternator tested good. The issue was that the battery was charging slowly or incompletely on short runs, resulting in a slow crank.
The link attached explains this better than I can, but the only true way to test the cable is to do a voltage drop test with the high amperage load. I may be all wet here, but I think it's worth one more test to rule it out completely.
In my case, the symptoms went from slowish cranks (almost unnoticeable since the deterioration was gradual over time), to longer slowish cranks (especially after short trips), to occasionally not wanting to start after short trips. The battery cable didn't look awful, but the voltage drop was substantial (I forget the amount), and the replacement cable made all the difference.
