I'm also running 205's but have been generally underwhelmed compared to my c900's (185/65R15). The 9-5 has newish Nokian Hakka R and the 1989 has older Nokian Hakka 4's. There is no comparison - the 1989 is much better in all winter conditions, even without abs vs the 9-5 with ESP/TCS on. The difference is not subtle - my wife notices this also.
I don't know if it is the car, or widths, or tire model or what... I am interested in the R2 next time as it has built in "grit" to act like studs in locales where studs are banned. Imho, this car *needs* studs. However, the R does not clear snow like the 4 (etc). I'm hoping they offer a gritted numbered hakka in the future.
If you don't already have a directional tire with large snow clearing gaps, look for that next time. Numbered Nokian Hakkas, Nordmans, and their clones (General Tire, Cooper, Pirelli, etc all have clones of older hakkas like 5 or whatnot). The dry road performance will not match some other tire designs though.
good luck!
