Heater Box R&R Tips & Tricks? Anders? Posted by Larry West [Email] (#1140) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Larry West) on Thu, 23 Apr 2015 08:44:34 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
So, I received confirmation of my worst fear last night. While attempting to repair the driver's blend door arm/shaft, I ended up breaking off another piece of the shaft inside the heater box. So, the whole heater box needs to be swapped.
I went over the WIS procedures last night. First pass got me more and more depressed as I read on. Dashboard, steering column, pedal hangers...it all seems to have to come out (and then some!). But it seems mostly straighforward. I've had the dash 75% apart in the past, just never completely out.
Fortunately, my mechanic has another one I can have, I just have to remove it from the car that's going to the scrapper's soon. Good practice, I'm suspecting...
So, I was hoping (probably unreasonably...) if there were any shortcuts, or things that WIS says to remove that I might just move aside, etc. I saw my mechanic doing this job in his shop some years ago, and it looked like the dash exploded onto the garage floor!
Not even sure he still does them, and I can't afford right now to have him do it anyway...
The car is a second-owner 2000 SE sedan in Imola Red with 157k. In very good condition for it's age. Paint is shiny, carpets are clean, and leather is pretty good. One dogleg starting to show rust. Have to tackle that this summer. Could use a good detailing. It is going in for its second (under my ownership) Timing belt, etc. in about 3 weeks.
I guess I know what I'm doing on my summer vacation!
