I thought that Saab changed "sport wagon" to "SportCombi" around 2006 in their own naming system. As far I understand, SportCombi simply means wagon. Aero was the performance package available on all of them. (In 2006, there were very few that actually got the Aero badging, but they are out there... and many came with Aero setups without the badge for that year only.)

In 2002, Aeros started with the bigger-bolstered seats, and after 2006, all of the cars came with the B235R engine, if I recall correctly. All Aeros would have lower suspension and some iteration of the B235R engine.

Maybe I'm wrong, but SportCombi was the moniker given to wagons later in the 9-5s life. It does not denote an engine or performance package. That was always the Aero moniker.

As a long time owner of a 9000 (Aero, 5spd), the 9-5 wagon (we've also had two of those) is a fantastic car, though it lacks a bit of the Saab soul that the 9000 has. Then again, many say that the 9000 doesn't have the same soul that the C900 has. (I prefer my 9000 Aero to the SPG I had by a long shot, but I have to whisper that around here sometimes, so shhhh...!)

I've enjoyed our 9-5 Aero wagons a great deal. Read up on the usual issues with those cars, and you'll start to feel right at home after those years working on the 9000.
