Getting the head on...

My first time getting into an engine this deeply. What I need a tip on is getting the head back on after replacing bent valves and a head gasket. I can't for the life of me seen to get the dowel pins to line up for the head to sit on the block. This is my first time ever doing a job this big because with all the older 9000s I have owned I only paid a max of $450 for them, so if they developed a major issue I just went and got another one. But I can't let go of my 2000 aero wagon 5 speed that easily. Any type of tip, trick or thing to do would be great guys (and gals) cause this is driving me crazy.
