The good thing with today's cars is that you can check the health of the engine and consumption very easy.
If you take a leisurely Sunday drive on the freeway and reset SID when you get up to around 65mph and then drive as steadily as you can at that speed for the next 20-30 miles, you should end up around 30-34 mpg.
If you get those numbers there is nothing wrong with your car but it is your driving style.
I cannot get my 9-5 to run better than 12-13 mpg going back and forth to work but out on the freeway steady at 65-70, I get up to 34 mpg until the traffic start to thicken up and then it slowly drops for every miles after that.
