Alternator Air Cooling Duct??? Posted by FredKolb12 [Email] (#46) [Profile/Gallery] (more from FredKolb12) on Tue, 23 Aug 2016 18:31:25 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I getting ready to attempt the replacement of my 2000 9-5 SE V6's alternator. It was replaced in 2010 by my Indy. I just noticed that the air cooling duct is not on the alternator and I'm thinking they failed to replace it when the repair took place.
How important is it that this duct be on the alternator? Does not having one subject the alternator to higher temperatures or contaminants from the road surface that could affect its service life? Should it be replaced onto the car when the new one is repaired?
[I've found the detailed instructions on another board on the process to replace the V6 alternator. Prior to the latest charging issues, I've not paid attention at all to the alternator.]
