The EPA figures on the window sticker on my '07 Aero SportCombi auto trans were 19 city 29 highway. the 19mpg is spot on, and between 65 & 70 mph, it gets 30 to 33mpg highway. At 75mph it drops to 26 mpg. When I've run 87 octane it's dropped by up to 2 mpg compared to 93 octane.
Recently the mpg fell over several months getting to 25/26 mpg at 65 to 70 mph. Finally it ran rough and the CEL came on. The brake booster vacuum hose failed. When replaced the mpg came back suggesting to me a small vacuum leak caused the mpg drop which got worse as the vacuum leak got worse.
Tires and air pressure make a difference, but not the difference between 23 & 30 mpg.
