Has the Timing Belt ever been changed? The primary maintenance issue with the V6 motor is the timing belt. It MUST be changed at 60,000 mile intervals, or you risk serious engine damage when it fails.
Unless you know it was changed, and has less than 60k on it, it is something to look into. very rare is the V6 that lasted to 100k on the original timing belt.
The standard routine is to replace the belt, AND all the small pulleys that touch it every 60k. I add to that by changing the water pump, and it's not that expensive, and 90% of the labor is the same as for the timing belt. Oh, and a leaking water pump can cause the timing belt to jump. My late mechanic had that happen to him.
