TB failure on the highway (14 hour road trip). Had been fussy 2 years prior, cleaned TB a couple times, then good until the breakdown. Had no option but to leave the car at a shop, who replaced the TB (probably unnecessary). On the way out from the shop, the plastic intake hose blew off. The other day, we blew off the same hose again even though it has been fine for almost a year.

Some things I have noticed...

Vacuum lines degrade - replace.

There is a short fat tapered line on the back of our TB that had disintegrated, and the shop electrical taped that. I don't know the p/n for that but I want to source a replacement. Not sure if a leak there could be causing problems.

The o-ring on the intake of the TB easily comes out of the groove, and the plastic intake hose can poorly seat as a result. That is the reason for our blow-offs I think. Our O-ring is mangled, so I need a new one. For now I have set it in the groove and carefully wrapped electrical tape over it so I could get the hose on without moving the O-ring and then clamp it down tighter. No problems yet in a couple days, but I don't love having electrical tape in there... kind of an awkward design.

Not sure if any of these issues are present in your car, but worth a check. Even with a new TB, we get some minor surging and the car does not feel as lively as it did when we bought it. There could be other factors also. I might pick up a spare AMM while they are still available new at reasonable cost...

Everyone always blames electronics, but ee101 rule #1 states "mechanical connections are the most likely failure points in any circuit"... which includes: connectors, switches, pots, relays, etc etc... I have not taken our TB apart, but to be honest, replacing the TB really did not solve the problem 100%.
