How to remedy loose DIC bolt? Posted by Brianatl [Email] (#1832) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Brianatl) on Sat, 27 May 2017 14:20:14 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have r/r DICs for my two 2002 2.3t several times over the years with no issues - it's just so easy. This time I found one of the 4 bolts to be loose as I removed it and noticed helical shavings around the bolt after removing it. Upon reinserting it in the same bolt hole it came from to tighten down the DIC I found it would not tighten. Using another of the bolts or a new one had not tightening effect at all. I conclude some mechanic seemingly overtightened it and I guess stripped it. What would the metal shavings I found around the bolt be from? Since the bolt hole seems to still have threads (perhaps it was tapped? if so, why the same size bolt?) is there something I can put around a bolt to make it hold or must it be retapped for a specific bolt of larger size? Thanks.
