I don't see the cap as being a cause, it serves to vent a sealed system.
I believe there is a check valve for feed and return lines on the Saab fuel system, so as to maintain some pressure in the fuel lines. I recall a bleeder screw on the fuel rail which you could probably use to check and see if any pressure remains after sitting overnight.
