Hi,
The problem has repeated with two different SID units, so it's the wiring or connectors between the switch and the SID. The connectors are certainly easy enough to visually inspect and correct if necessary.
Connectors can be a pain. I had a connector issue on a relay on my mother-in-law's '90 Volvo that caused a confounding intermittent no start condition. It took about a month to play out and finally solve. I fixed it by slightly deforming a socket contact and adding conductive paste. That's the kind of thing that can send an old car to the scrap yard. It takes too much time for the average indie shop to dedicate.
