I've had the Taliaferro down pipe on my 2002 Aero for 45,000 miles, and I have never had a problem with the check engine light. It doesn't seem to affect the mixture that I can tell, but it does speed up the turbo spool-up. The rear sensor sticks straight up from the pipe and is located between the block and the firewall. With a couple extensions on a socket wrench you should be able to get at it from the top. It does take some jockeying around to get the pipe on the turbo studs, but it just takes some rotation of the pipe.
A big bonus of the pipe is that it gets rid of the intermediate flex pipe. When you subtract the cost of a flex pipe from the Taliaferro down pipe cost, it's not much more than a replacement cat.
