Expansion Valve 1 Saabers Like This Post! Posted by Gene N [Email] (#1094) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Gene N) on Tue, 31 Jul 2018 15:53:15 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I had to replace my A/C expansion valve and receiver/dryer to solve a persistent slow leak problem on my 2002 Aero. After about a half an hour of painful contortion from the top of the engine, I decided to try to get at it from underneath. If you remove the rear motor mount bracket there is actually quite a bit room to get at, and replace, the expansion valve. If you buy an aftermarket expansion valve, try to get one that includes the O-rings needed. I didn't, and as a result, spent a while searching through my A/C O-ring collection looking for 3 different sizes of O-rings. The receiver/dryer is straightforward, with the only snag being the band clamp the holds the canister. The bolt (8mm head) is difficult to get to because of the front bumper mount. I took out the left headlight so that I could tap the canister from the top with a hammer. The new receiver/dryer went in without a problem, and according to the UV light there are no leaks. Make sure you wipe off the old dye, before you start, otherwise you won't find new leaks.
