I pulled the seat in our O4 Sedan to redo the seat bottom that had burst a seam. I'm pretty sure I unplugged everything and had no issue (I definitely had no issue), though I may be mixing up the extent to which I removed it with many other car interior removal projects of the past! It is possible that I just removed the seat bottom.
I do know that if you interchange things with the wrong model year, you will run into problems. Eg a 2001 buckle will not work in a 2004 sedan without making a wiring change to trick the computer.
