For your bedtime reading pleasure...
2000 Saab 2.3L Lpt 160K miles
I think I've read every post concerning bad brake boosters but still not 100% sure. $205 from eeuro so I'd like to be since I installed a new ProParts booster a year ago. No problem braking. Have always had a somewhat sinking pedal but brakes fine and ABS works. Data I've gathered:
Three test results with the pedal
1. Start car and pedal sinks as it should.
2. Idle 2 minutes, press and hold pedal, turn off engine. Pedal does not rise at all but sinks more with any additional pressure.
3. Idle 2 minutes. Turn off and pump pedal. Should rise with each pump but does not.
At operating temp:
With brake booster vacuum line in place, there's -24% air mass deviation and many misfires across all cylinders.
With just the intake manifold port & hose end plugged, deviation remains the same, STFT 8%, Purge adaptation 20%. No knocks, no misfires. Press the brake pedal and deviation drops to -15%.
Plugged at both intake and vacuum pump, deviation is -15%, no knocks/misfires. Pressing brake there's no change.
Vacuum pump and intake connected, plugged ONLY at the booster, deviation drops to -8%, no knocks/misfires, STFT +2%, Purge adaptation 8%.
Vacuum line and check valves check out ok. So, that's the booster, correct? There are likely other issues but I need to eliminate the misfires. Thank you for any suggestions
