Well I know what you mean ! I had a 1985 Yamaha FZ 750 M/C ( The worlds first 100+ HP 750cc motorcycle ! ) I really miss it ! Sorry I digress, It had the BEST headlight I have ever seen ! Just one H-4 bulb ! 35/35 watts ? .It had a Massive rectangular light. However, when we modified the system w/ heavy gauge wiring , direct fr the battery,70 amp relays and the killer 100/160 watt H-4 bulb it became an OMG headlight ! ( And the ignition switch and handlebar switches would last forever as you are not pulling massive amps thru them !) Talk about light up the night ! Now YES a great reflector / lens design can be a great start ,and can use a very bright bulb to best advantage . As the Pirelli ad says "power is nothing without control " Car styling has made lights squished and small hasn't it ? and now the use of projector beam lights ! ...................... What you propose , sadly, I doubt would help much ! My reflectors are in good nick and shinny and stepping up a mere 5 watts would be a drop in the bucket ( and ahem. it already HAS 55 watt H-7 bulbs!) Try again ? ................................PS I have been talking to some lighting experts at HID direct and trying to find the BEST rear tailight light bulb - A work in progress ! ( So far the best for turn signals is to use old fashioned 1157 bulbs . you solder the two contacts together and file down one of the little studs that project out the side - so it will go in the turn signal socket ! This way you get BOTH filaments ! so 28+ 8.5 watts? LOL ) they told me the LED (tailight bulbs) are generally NOT very bright, Not even as bright as old filament type as they need to stay "road legal" as defined by the DOT! ( DOT ! so I say, A pox on their houses! LOL ) ........ As for headlights? We agreed the REAL fix is for us to have the awesome laser sourced adaptable headlights as used on new BMW, Audi, Mercedes in EUROPE ! - Leave it to the genius German automotive engineers to design a laser you can stare at that will NOT harm your eyes ! ( Our reactionary ,incompetent bumbling bureaucrats at our USA DOT ( Department Of Transportation ) will NOT allow them here ! - Well, what can you expect to from the complete idiots who kept us using "sealed beam " dim headlights 20+ YEARS After the rest of the world had Halogen ! ( Note ! the German equivalent of the DOT, their TUV is run , populated by REAL automotive engineers ! bless em' ! ) So soon, hopefully, there will be aftermarket laser sourced, adaptable beam lights in USA ( BTW they automaticly selectively, computer controlled DIM when cars are oncoming so noone is Dazzled w/ bright lights !) and Then we can Light up the night !
