I remember having issues finding fairly priced parts for the 9000 back in the 1990s, early 2000s. And the dealer in New Orleans was hideous.
But the 1999-2009 9-5 was still in the picture when the "divorce" from GM was negotiated and it appears GM did things to make a huge treasure trove of replacement parts happen. We can find high quality parts now for less in dollars today than ten years ago. I would say the general quality of the bits used to assemble 9-5s is decidedly better (and then some) over the bits used to assemble 9000s (that is, the non Saab made parts).
There's actually a dealer in Memphis (Gwatney) but I've only been there to replace an airbag under warranty. You are expected to do your own wrenching. But the idea is, the work is pretty easy and the assemblages are durable.
Just one thing. I have four of these 9-5s. My strategy is to park the ones that go south - but they all keep doing fine. I figure, one will have an issue too expensive to repair but how to know which one? With four of these, you're hedging your bets. 224,000 miles, 211,000 miles, 179,000 miles and 98,000 miles and you never know when I'll grab a 5th one.
