if you're seeing warning light, etc. going off as well, then I doubt its the start/solenoid...
If the starter doesn't even click, but then a little while later it starts right up, then i would definitely focus on the battery cables, and all connections from those cables... especially those coming off of the alternator...
Also.. if it's randomly happening.. it could be a faulty ignition switch as well...
you should probably get the alternator tested.. if the wiring looks okay.. as the regulator may be misbehaving .. which could undercharge or overcharge the battery.. as well as cause the dashboard lighting/warning lights to come on erratically, etc... When mine went last summer, I started seeing strange behavior on the dashboard.. and then it got progressively worse.. to the point where the car would stall after a few hundred feet of driving... (i had 250k miles on mine.. at the time)
