Previous posts will detail the whole story but in essence I had a loss of high boost and acceleration and a whining noise on lower gear acceleration and the code shown.
The P1549 code persisted through changing out the boost control valve,
the boost control valve hose tree,
the MAF sensor and the
turbo by-pass valve.
I changed everything possible but the code persisted
Yesterday finished the turbo change (at 120,000 miles I thought it made sense) and in the process, despite the waste gate arm seeming ok while on the car, when I got it off the diaphragm showed to be obviously shot.
Went ahead and changed the turbo and wastegate and now I have lovely boost and the code has not returned. Not yet anyway. Doubt that I will see that sucker now.
Interestingly the original turbo (yes, it was the original) is still in good solid shape and will serve as a good spare.
Indy quoted $850 for the all parts supplied swap-over so I decided after a couple of dry runs to do it myself with some help at crucial points.
Hope this helps someone. If you get a P1549 dont discount the wastegate like I did.
