My experiment - if noise returns I'll be shopping new pads Posted by Mark in Marine [Email] (#1837) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mark in Marine) on Wed, 31 Jul 2019 15:07:25 In Reply to: New Pagid Front pads - severe brake squeal at end of stop, Mark in Marine [Profile/Gallery] , Fri, 26 Jul 2019 16:10:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The Pagid pads have 340 miles from my installation on new Pagid rotors. Here's what I'm trying: Removed pads, gently sanded pads w. 220 grit sandpaper on very flat surface (remove any glaze or ripples), reinstalled with extra CRC Brake Quiet, bedded in again with repeated stops to get pads warmed up.
I'm concerned about brake dust hazard even without asbestos, so the sanding was by hand and NO compressed air (HEPA vacuum is good idea). I waited much longer to let the Brake Quiet dry down to a tacky film stage before assembly. This time there is Brake Quiet on outer pads in addition to the adhesive on the pads as-received. I am hoping that the extra Brake Quiet, especially on the outer pads, will take care of squeaking.
I'm satisfied with the Pagid front pads in brake feel / performance, but they are dusty, and if the squeak returns I will be seeking more advice on new pads.
