Finally got the SAAB back together. A myriad of wrong parts and difficulties. The first timing belt didn't have the marks for the newer revision timing idler arrangement. The accessory belt I ordered from Amazon was the correct part-number on the box but not the correct number on the belt. Then my extension tube for the thermostat was cracked at the bracket. Barely hanging on. So I ordered a new one and got one for a Saturn L300/Vue/Catera/CTS. The extension tube was missing the water outlet pipe the goes to the turbocharger of that one. I used J.B. Weld on the old one and it may hold? I didn't give it adequate cure time as I wanted to start the car and see if it shoots the water out of the coolant tank? At least I have time to find the correct parts. If anyone has an extension tube for the thermostat laying around, Part-number is 90 490 429, drop me an email and I'll purchase it. So, ran the car for 45 minutes. Amazingly the radiator fans were running now. There was no boil over. What was weird is the temperature gauge on the dash showed "Cold". I shut off the car and restarted and now it show halfway. I have no idea where the temperature sending unit is located? Anyway, I need to drive the car and see if I dodged another bullet? Both valve covers are leaking oil. Seems to keep blowing out. Car is 17 years old so not sure how much longer she will run. Appreciate the response here as always.
