I did this a few years back on my 01 lpt sedan... I don't recall anything unusually difficult about the job.. the core is very easily accessible once you remove the glove compartment.. like you would for the cabin filter replacement.. and then you remove the carpet trim piece just under that area.. and you'll see the core..
from what i recall, there were either 2 or 4 bolts.. holding it in.. and there was some sort of clamping mechanism that held the 2 aluminum pipes in place ... once you remove all of those.. it just slides out..
Just be sure to order the 2 O rings for those pipes.. and lubricate them prior to installing...
I don't recall having to do anything outside/under the hood. though I did rig up some sort of plastic container to catch any coolant when detaching the pipes..Otherwise, you may have to partially drain the system...
Once it's in.. be sure to remove the expansion take cap.. and run it for a while.. and top off the coolant.. to get any air out of the system.. (you may have to repeat this step a couple of times...)
You'll feel both pipes getting hot..once the air is out of the system, and everything is flowing freely....
