Confused about auto trans fluid Posted by TML [Email] (#2212) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TML) on Mon, 16 Sep 2019 15:15:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
2007 9-5 Auto Aero wagon
I noticed some fluid under my car while departing from work today. I thought I'd noticed this a few times before, but I kept forgetting to check the spot before parking. Today I made sure it was clean, and sure enough there was fresh stuff there at the end of the day.I checked the engine oil, then the trans fluid (using the online WIS as a guide). The trans fluid was barely on the tip of the dipstick, well below the min level. I picked up a quart of fluid at the nearest store, and proceeded to top it up, again following the WIS. After putting a significant amount in, I didn't notice the level going up. I then checked under the car and saw fluid dripping at an accelerated rate.
What has me most puzzled is that I read elsewhere that starting in 2006, there isn't a trans dipstick on the 9-5. So why does mine have one? And on cars without one, where do you add fluid, since the instructions I read said to add the fluid to the disptick tube? Was I checking the level and adding fluid to a disptick tube that doesn't connect to anything?
Not sure now whether I have too little or too much fluid, or how to find out.
