Assuming it is a sticking solenoid valve..... It is relatively inexpensive and easy to replace a sticking solenoid valve. The tranny stays in the car, only a front cover on the tranny needs to be removed, solenoid valve cost is around $25 for used, or around $200 for new.
It has been a few years but there were posts regarding automatic transmission solenoid valve replacement task on the 4-speed automatics, maybe a decade or so ago. Not a common failure, but a few posters replaced solenoids.
