thinking of buying this car, good or bad idea? Posted by TML [Email] (#2212) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TML) on Wed, 16 Oct 2019 09:43:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I currently have an automatic 9-5 wagon. I've spent some money to get it into pretty good shape, but I've never been an automatic guy and I'm already wishing I had the manual for the better responsiveness, better fuel economy, etc. The 9-5 wagon manual is a pretty rare combo to find for sale these days, especially where I live. There happens to be one for sale locally, but it's a project car. After my recent 9-5 auto purchase, I'm starting to think they're all potentially project cars; mine was supposed to be tip top, and so far I've dropped a couple of thousand (USD equivalent) into it in the first two months.
So this car for sale is an '07 Aero, I think (looked at actually before I bought my current car, ad is now down but I know it's still for sale). Might be an '06. 190k or so miles. Some significant rust on the wheel wells and the gas lid, and a ticking sound from the engine area that a mechanic supposedly diagnosed as a bad cat converter. Not so sure about that; has anyone else heard of that? The ticking is about 3-4 ticks per second at idle, but goes away completely when driving under load. The car is priced low enough that I could spend a few thousand in repairs without much concern, but if the whole engine is suspect then I'd be leery.
