Reversing Lights and Parking Assist not working

This is a weird issue I have here - 2004 9-5 Aero Wagon. I noticed that my reversing lights weren't working so after checking the fuse and bulbs I took out the reversing light switch from the transmission and tested it with my multimeter. It was open circuit whether the plunger was out or in. Simple issue I thought. So I got a new switch and installed it - still no lights or parking assist. I took out the new switch and tested it - seems to work fine. Next I shorted out the switch connector - still no go.
I put a voltmeter across the switch connector and came up with around 7v - that doesn't seem good. I get 12v when I connect from the live side of the connector to ground, so that seems like a possible grounding issue? But nothing else electrical is acting up, and it seems like a huge coincidence to get a bad switch and a bad ground at the same time.
Any thoughts as to what might be going on?
Thanks
Rod
