Stall when cold Posted by cgwiz [Email] (#1128) [Profile/Gallery] (more from cgwiz) on Wed, 30 Oct 2019 07:42:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
New to me 2005 Arc, 120k miles. Unknown service record. On the first start of the morning, car will start and stall. Generally stays running on the third start. No problems starting and staying running the rest of the day. Seems worse on colder mornings, but as I've only had it a couple weeks, insufficient trials to be sure. New NGK plugs, no change. Doesn't appear to make any difference if I go straight to start, or if I turn the key to 'ON' for several seconds before engaging the starter.
Car has thrown a CEL P0116, which I assume is for the wonky temperature gage. Will occasionally drop to bottom about 20 minutes into a drive. Will come back after shutting off and re-starting. OBD II tells me the coolant temperature runs around 170F at 50F ambient (drive of an hour or so). I have ordered a new temp sensor and thermostat, should be able to install this weekend.
Ideas?
