You can search on CPS and find ways to check it on this forum. I believe one is observation of the tach when starting hot. The car may not restart and the tach will either not move or move inappropriately or erratically. A failing CPS tends to allow starting when cold. Perhaps you should start with a new battery - that's something I would probably do in light of the 3 yr age unless I was ok spending half the cost or more of a battery on a diagnostic test. With the high mileage, all charging system components are suspect. If you need to minimize the risk of breakdown/downtime, it might be appropriate to round up and replace all the usual suspects after sourcing the parts.
