I recently did the crank seal and oil pump O-ring also.
Found that modifying/grinding the points of a pair of old cheap multi-grip pliers gave me very reasonable ability to get that thing off and on again. (I have to admit I was kind of proud of the effort.)
The upside: enabled access and leverage.
The downside that occurred to me afterwards: if you are not careful and grind it down too thin, it may break off during use. Could that get stuck in places you don't want stray pieces of metal? Maybe.
But heck it worked well for me despite the crappy workmanship.
And no more oil leak! Yay!
Obviously, be mindful in the grinding of what angle will give you the leverage you need.
