Aftermarket CAT - living in CT Posted by mlc [Email] (#1747) [Profile/Gallery] (more from mlc) on Tue, 21 Apr 2020 06:46:55 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hey Folkss... I've been getting a P0420 code the past few months now. Before this happened I replaced both of my O2 sensors this past summer, after I detected a rotten egg smell. (there were no CEL codes at the time, sensors were original.. with car being a 2001, with 276k miles), and that seemed to address the problem.
Now it looks like the CAT may have finally reached its end of life, as the upstream and downstream sensors are showing similar measurements on my scan tool, so I'm guessing its time.. .
Questions:
1) I'm confused by Connecticut's emissions laws. Do I need to replace it with a CARB compliant CAT, or can it simply be EPA/Federal compliant?
2) Does CT even measure the emissions from the CAT or do they simply check for CEL codes ?
3)are there any aftermarket cats out there that are CARB compliant.. or do i need to go OEM?
4) thoughts on which aftermarket cat makes sense? I see Bosal, Walker, EasterCat and Magnaflow as the most popular options.. plus a bunch of generic brands ... ?
