More diagnostic results. Opinions solicited..... I disconnected the right rear lamp cluster wiring harness from the lamp board.
I checked for continuity between the pink wire where I slit its insulation in the tire well to ground. Continuity established! I don't think this should be the case unless the wire is compromised somewhere along its length and shorted to ground inadvertently, but DC confuses me.
I then checked for continuity of the pink wire between the connector where it plugs into the lamp board and the insulation slit I created. Continuity established! So there is not a failed connector or broken wire at the lamp board as I suspected.
So...my suspicion now is that somewhere in the trunk, where the wiring harness is tightly tied to harness mounts abutting metal body protrusions, the harness has worn through and the pink wire is shorting to ground.
Any other thoughts?
I guess I will start on the right side as this branch of the harness does not travel to the left side lamp board where it could have been impacted by replacing left side lamps 18 months ago.
Let me know your thoughts and ideas. Thanks!
