With help from the TERRIFIC 95 mechanic, Rob Beckner, who has his own SAAB boneyard and shop in Jefferson, OR!!!
Turns out there was a bad connection at the lower end of the charge air pipe where it connects to the charge air cooler under the car!!! The lower end of that plastic pipe had become distorted and was letting in varying amounts of additional air confusing the ECU with erratic MAF sensor signals. If you should ever disconnect this pipe, don't forget to put those metal rings back in before cinching the hose clamp (like I did).
I was convinced it was a fuel or spark problem and never thought to check or look for this! I never had any codes, just the annoying sub-par performance and the misfire readings.
Cassidy-II is back to the ride I've known and loved.
I hope this helps and maybe save someone else the hours I spent chasing my tail through DIC, spark plug and TB changes.
Happy Motoring!
