Bad Charge Air Pressure Sensor? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sat, 24 Apr 2021 07:01:11 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My saga continues. 2008 9-5 with 225K miles.
I received one of my new Throttle Body Inlet Hose Clamps yesterday, along with add'l O-Rings, new hood struts, and a new Engine Cover to replace my old broken one. I installed the new SAAB brand hose clamp just now. The old one looked well used but no glaring damage to the grooves for the worm screw teeth.
After replacing this I noticed the inter-cooler discharge hose to Charge Air Pipe connection had shifted again. Second time since I started having problems that I noticed clean plastic at this hose clamp connection indicating about a 1/4-inch of lateral joint movement. Once might be sloppy button-up work by me but twice means something else.
Is the charge air pipe becoming over pressurized? Is that the cause of the pipe blowing off the Throttle Body and shifting the other hose connection too?
I had a new Hooter Valve in my parts cabinet so I installed that. I noticed the Hooter valve discharge pipe connection at the Cobra Pipe was loose so I installed a new high temp O-ring on that connection that was also in my parts cabinet.
I followed the vacuum hose from the Hooter Valve back to its solenoid, then checked the connections at the solenoid. The hose connection at the top side of the valve was not fully seated but clearly over the barb. I fully seated that and the other two connections were fine.
In the three blow-offs of the Charge Air Pipe (or is it now four?) within the past week I have had zero CEL's locked in that needed to be reset. I find this odd. I am accustomed to seeing a CEL resulting from a failed Hooter Valve.
I had to remove the sensor on the charge air pipe that sits immediately above the Hooter Valve connection to be able to remove the Hooter Valve. Is this the Charge Air Pressure Sensor? If this fails, will a CEL illuminate that requires re-setting?
Am I really seeing the results of a failed pressure sensor coupled with aged & weakened hose clamps, rather than failed hose clamps?
Seeking knowledge and opinions.
Just for curiosity sake I checked for codes. One code stored, P1300. I know this can result result from the hose popping off, rather than being the master cause of all issues.
I am leaning toward replacing the Charge Air Pressure Sensor anyway. Lots of age and miles on my current one.
