I need to get the parking brake cable replaced. COVID has made taking it to a specialist pretty difficult. The closest is a couple of hours away, and given that almost no places are open, it will be impossible to drop it off and kill time in a coffee shop, restaurant, mall, etc. I could just wander around the streets, I guess, but that prospect is not enticing.
Option number 2A is to buy the parts needed and do it myself. Bear in mind I have no shop, no paved surface, no lift, no protection from the elements. Is this a pretty straightforward job that could be done just driving the car up on ramps, and completed within a day? I do have a pretty extensive set of tools and I'm fairly competent. I've done brake renewal before, but never had much to do with the parking brake, aside from adjustment. I think the 9-5 system uses separate drums for the parking brake, whereas the 9000 that I'm most familiar with used the main pads and rotors.
Option 2B is buying the parts and bringing it to a local garage. I don't think they have the wherewithal to source the parts themselves. They seem to rely on local suppliers, which is how I ended up with an ignition coil that lasted two months on my previous 9-3.
Which of these three options makes the most sense? It's an '07 5-spd wagon, if that makes any difference.
