Transmission would be a very rare instance of it locking up the converter so I would not really worry about it until lots of other things are ruled out.
The easiest way would be to raise the car and check the cv boots for damage or evidence of an old leak that may have run it low on grease inside. The best way would be to loosen a boot and check the grease inside. If it looks extremely full of metal or rust. But then you need a method to reinstall the boot clamp or a new clamp.
