P0410 Code - Secondary Air Injection Posted by pme [Email] (#1496) [Profile/Gallery] (more from pme) on Fri, 27 Aug 2021 10:18:57 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi -
Car is a 2003 9-5 Arc (V6), 298,000 miles. SAI Pump and check valves are original.
I have been getting the above code roughly once a week/10 days recently. I clear it with my code reader and it recurs in about a week or 10 days, which from research on the board is about the time the ECM takes to decide there is a problem.
- I have let the CEL stay lit for a week to see if it cleared itself over time
- I have checked and cleaned the electrical connection to the pump
- I have listed to and felt the pump run on a cold start; it sounds like a blow dryer being run on a low setting. I saw a post here or on another board that indicated that the pump should sound more like a dryer on a high setting — does that ring true?
- EDIT: one more point. After the week or 10 days, when the CEL comes on, it seems to illuminate well after the car has been through its first run cycle, is at temperature and been driven for some time. To me its almost a a delayed reaction versus an immediate reporting of the error code.
From my read of the old posts on this topic (especially BMillar’s) some correspondence with FredKolb12, and the above observations it seems to point to the SAI pump, and likely the check valves to ensure that condensation stays out of the new pump.
Thankfully in 2002 or so, the pump was put on its own circuit (so it won’t blow the cabin fan fuse) and the pump itself is accessible from under the car, right behind the front bumper. The nuts may be a challenge due to exposure to winter salt though
Any other suggestions?
Many thanks
