i cant say if 2 hrs is reasonable for a pro to replace front control arms, but it would take me about 3.
your squeak and pop is surely either a worn bushing, worn sway bar link, worn ball joint, worn tie rod end, or worn subframe bushings. there are two bushings and a ball joint on the control arm, presumably he replaced all of those along with the arm itself.
Note, as I discovered on my '01 Aero, poly bushings get noisy especially in the cold. Next time I do subframe bushings on my car Ill be using OEM.
I would think he could narrow down the cause of the noise on the lift, although since you say it happens only when cold that makes it more difficult for him to experience the noise personally.
Next cold morning, could you get under the car while someone leans on the fender? maybe you could pinpoint (or at least narrow down) the source of the noise.
