Agree - the Night Panel function kills the lights around those gauges except for s section of the speedometer. At they same time it kills power to the servos that drive those gauges so they rest at their lowest points. If anything required attention (like overheat or low gas) the appropriate gauge is supposed to relight and show a reading.
Not a feature I’ve used often at all, but on long drives at night (like White Plains NY to Williamsburg VA to visit the then college student) it was nice to minimize the lit cockpit.
Try toggling that button on the right side of the SID.
