Hello,
If you currently have the christmas tree it might be the module. You need the codes from your shop. It could be a rear speed sensor or a harness failure behind the driver seat, because that is were the car gets the signal for the speedometer. If he can't communicate at all with the ABS module it is probably the module. If it is the module no one can fix the 04 module. I just waited 3 months to track one down for a customer. There are 2 different modules that should work in the 04. They have different Bosch numbers but work. When you can find a working one they appear to be around $450 so yes a little pricey.
