I bought my 2005 9-5(sold my 2004) a few months back. Great condition(low mileage) except for the air bag light was on. The owner said it was intermittent only when turning the steering wheel, although it was on permanently when I got it. The horn and steering wheel controls were inoperable.

Not thinking much about it and seeming it would be simple fix with a new clock spring. I installed the new one(Proparts) but it did not solve the air bag light(I do have a tech 2), but it DID fix the horn and controls. I then tried a new clock spring to air bag harness(part 5200894) and that did not solve it either. Then I bought a used clock spring (doubting the Proparts quality) and again, no go-this used one did have missing sheathing but wires seemed fine.

What else could it be? The codes are B0022 and B0042; Drivers side low resistance. The resistance is 1 ohm whereas the passengers air bags are at 2 ohms. From my research I have come across several probabilities.

1) On another saab site someone showed this: "EPC and esaabparts say 12781989 is passenger airbag harness and is supposed to go with the updated driver's side harness".
2) Bumper air bag sensor?
3) The CIM?
4)Or from Swedecar a few years back: "The new clock spring has to be calibrated with Tech 2 so that the car knows when wheels are pointing straight forward in relation to steering wheel.
This is only part of the ABS/ESP system and not the steering wheel buttons"

Another note on my new 9-5, the ancillary plug, next to the main one where it connects under the steering column(not the big one) does have frayed sheathing and maybe some wires frayed and cut. Would that trigger the codes? This seems to be the plug for the horn and controls?

Sorry for the long ramble. Any ideas? Thanks, Mark
