Intermittant no start

2009 Aero wagon. This is a new issue so far as I can tell (my son drives this and we may have replaced a battery because of what he said the car was doing). Everything powers up - fuel pump, buzzing in dash, etc. - but turning the key does nothing. This happened yesterday, yet the car started easily when I got home from work, again this morning on several occasions, then nothing. 3 hours later, I'm back home and the car starts right up several times. Reading some older messages I elected to swap in a new NSS just because it's an easy task. Car fires right up multiple time. Part across the street, won't start 5 mins later. Again, the started simply doesn't engage. This isn't like a bad CPS, fuel pump, etc.

Any thoughts? There isn't anything I can read with a Tech 2. The positive cable seems perfectly fine and intermittant issues seem to diminish that possibility. I can assume starter solenoid or ignition switch. Does that sound reasonable?
