06 Aero Dame Edna instrument cluster problems Posted by fatzsaab [Email] (#3836) [Profile/Gallery]

OK, so my '06 Aero with 241000 miles' MIU is acting up. At times, the analog needles all drop to zero, and sometimes the airbag light comes on and I get the warning "ding". When this happens, the SID only shows the shift position indication, the mileage and trip odometer reading. When in this mode, the A/C is inoperative, and there is no communication with any scan tool, generic or Tech2. There are no codes stored for the MIU, and the ECM monitors do not go away- they stay completed. Once in a great while, it also seems like the transmission shift points are inconsistent, and the idle is compromised.
My question is- may this be a fault of the cluster itself, or the control unit on the back of the cluster? Or is it both? It seems like nobody wants to touch these units to refurbish them since BBA Remanufacturing went belly-up. No new clusters are available except for non-USA spec vehicles (KM/H instead od MPH), but they do not include the control unit, which is NLA. I know that the control units caused the turn signal and warning sounds to cut out, but these both function perfectly on my car. Any insight would be appreciated!
