SAAB 9-5 3.0 Starter failure. Can't get it off.

Our SAAB 9-5 wouldn't crank over. The Starter would run and the engine wouldn't turn more than 1/2 revolution. I thought the Timing belt jumped or it was hydro-locked. Timing all good, removed the plugs and no sign of water in cylinders. I can crank the engine over easily with a wrench on crankshaft. The Starter appear to have given up.
I have been unable to remove the Starter from this crazy 3.0 V6. I can't seem to access the upper bolt for Starter. There seems to be a wiring harness that goes from behind the Starter to the Alternator. I called around and was quoted $550 labor to R & R the Starter. The quote doesn't include the price of the Starter. Was hoping there are some tricks to remove the Starter.
Our SAAB is getting tired but still drives great until the Started quit.
