I follow the auto industry fairly close and I am not 100% sure if the engines are the same or not. All I know is the the SAAB engine is built in the UK.
It would make sense that they are NOT. Why would the same engine that is used in the Opel Omega/Caddy Catera make 200HP normally aspirated (and 180+ in the Saturn LS), whereas the British built engine in the 9-5 need a small turbo to make 200HP?
But, why does it matter that much if the engines are shared with Saturn or Cadillac or Opel? If an engine is good, why does it matter? Look at the VQ V-6 series in Nissan/Infiniti and just about all VW/Audi engines. Lexus/Toyota uses the Camry V-6 in the RX300, ES300, and Sienna van. These facts don't seem to curb the sales of any of those makes/brands - why should it in a SAAB as long as it strong, smooth, and refined (which I think my SE's V-6 is).
