Where I live in Eastern Switzerland, the Nitrogen
thing was started next door in Liechtenstein by
BMW Heidegger, the company that imports all Alpina
BMWs to Switzerland. (I think that Alpina started this
in Europe)

Then all Subaru dealers started doing this for their
Scoobies (Impreza Turbo) cars. Next the local GM/Opel/Vette
dealers did it.

It is spreading rather quickly around here with more
and more drivers of high performance cars requesting it.

2 of my friends did it, 1 Subaru Imprezza Turbo and 1 Vette
driver. They recommeded it right away!

My local SAAB/Range Rover dealer has now started doing it.
They started inflating the tires on the Range Rovers to
get better handling and less noise. Now they recommend
it for all Aero's and Viggen's.

Compared to a tire filled with regular air, a tire filled
with Nitrogen contains less other gasses then Nitrogen.
Air contains mainly Nitrogen and Oxygen as well as CO2, CO,
and some other rare gasses.

The tires are first inflated with regular dried compressed
air, then while they lift your car, deflated and refiled
with nitrogen, which reduces the total amount of other
gasses in your tire. In the end 90% of the gas in the
tire is Nitrogen, instead of 70%.

As the tire is filled mainly with Nitrogen the heat has
less of an effect on the water vapour and other gases
in the tire. The tire is more quiet and is lighter as well.
(remember that Oxygen, CO2, CO are a lots heavier then
Nitrogen) overall this results in improved ride and reduced
noise. Some say it also improves handling in grooves left by
trucks...

I can only recommend it!

Regards,
Coolknight
