Hi all. I have a similar problem in UK. Iv've got a 1992 Turbo16i (185hp, 98,000KM) convertible, that I bought 1 year ago from a friend of mine. For some reason the the temperature of running engine is too high, often just some mm.below the red area. I noticed a number of events:

1. in London traffic the engine temp would go very high (close to red), fan kickin in, temperature going back to 4/5 of sdcale. never on 1/2 scale, where it should be at normal running conditions.

2. Temperature goes very high at low speed (manouevering in parking/traffic) and goes back to 3/4 or 4/5 of scale when driving at higher speeds(Motorways). Actually i used the car several times to travel across Europe, but now...

3. i had the fan switch, all hoses, and the thermostat replaced, also I had a complete re-filling of the coolant: nothing changed -- :((

4. The temperature seems to cool a little bit down if I open the internal cabin heating command to spit hot air. (not the best here in summer though). But then begins again to creep up.

5. The level of the coolant is constant (no water losses from hoses/headgasket)

6. Could it be:
Radiator clogged? Waterpump about to die? Air in the cooling system? ( Any other idea? Here the official SAAB mechanics do not seem to find the cause.

I thank you folks in US for any cool idea to help me out.

Thanks in advance,

Giovanni
